Beach-booth manager!
Expert Active is also hiring instructors to lead surf, bodyboard, skimboard, standup paddleboarding, and ebike tours at the Monarch Bay Beach Club (Dana Point) and Balboa Bay Resort (Newport).
Training for our 2024 Spring and Summer starts now through June. If hired, applicants can set their own preferred availability to be called into the beach for a lesson or tour. All positions require a CPR and First Aid course to be completed within 30 days of employment. Obtaining this will be the applicant’s responsibility as the certification is required for the position.

SURF/BODYBOARD/SUP Instructor
You will be responsible for teaching an hour long class consisting of 1-3 guests at a time how to surf, bodyboard or SUP. Guides must have their own wetsuits and will be required to show up 10 minutes prior to their scheduled appointments, be available on call during a select number of busier days during the season, be capable and proficient surfers and knowledgeable of the ocean.
Physical tasks include carrying surfboards, bodyboards, and SUPs to the beach as well as rinsing and putting equipment away after lessons.
SKIMBOARD Instructor
You will be responsible for teaching an hour long class consisting of 1-3 guests at a time how to skimboard. We will provide skimboards and equipment for guests, but guides must bring their own skimboard to demonstrate on. It is imperative that instructors know how to skimboard and teach the basics to a person that has never tried the sport.
EBIKE Guide
Guides will be leading guests on tours that range from 1-4 hours long. Must be knowledgable about bikes as you might be required to repair a flat or adjust breaks and handlebars along the tour. You will be responsible for greeting guests, setting up eBikes before the tour and making sure eBikes are properly charged and stored after the tour. Major plus if you own your own eBike and are familiar with the area!
BOOTH ATTENDANT/SALES ASSOCIATE
Starting at $17 an hour + tip
We are seeking a booth-attendant/sales associates to assist with customer check-in, questions, reservations, and rentals. Sales associates must have strong phone and communications skills and be tech savvy enough to learn how to use our reservation system. Applicants must be able to mutli-task, answer busy phone lines and handle a high volume of customer traffic as well as carry up to 50lbs in weight such as a standup paddleboard or surfboard.

KIDS OCEAN Instructor
Must be good with kids, ages 3-10. This 30 minute course helps introduce them to the ocean, teaching them the basics of currents, and how to move in the water. Many kids are intimidated by the sea and have never set foot in it before. Instructors will be required to slowly acclimate kids to the water, working with them to inch their way out into the waves as far as the kid feels comfortable. The last ~10 minutes of the class instructors will have the option of pushing kids into small waves on a bodyboard if the kid is feeling up to it.
