Laguna Beach Team Building: Surf, Paddle & Art
Laguna Beach Team Building: Surf, Paddle & Art
Laguna Beach is where Orange County's surf culture and art scene overlap. Coves break up the coastline, the wilderness rises right behind town, and galleries, taco counters and old surf shops share the same few blocks. Expert Active runs Laguna team days that start in the water and finish in the village, for local companies and for groups staying at Laguna's resorts.

Laguna Beach team building activities
1. Surf lessons. Laguna is one of our surf school's home breaks. We match the beach to the day's swell, start on the sand, and coach at a 1:3 ratio with boards, wetsuits, towels and sunscreen included. Up to 24 people can surf at once. Surf lessons.
2. Kayaking. Paddling along Laguna's open coast shows off the cove beaches from the water. Because this is ocean rather than harbor, we plan each session around the swell. Launch spot confirmed when you book. Kayak.
3. Stand-up paddleboard. On calm mornings, SUP along the coves is a quiet, beautiful team session, with guides teaching technique before you head out. SUP.
4. Top of the World hike. We can tailor the trail to your needs. Most guests opt for the easy, circular hike to the breathtaking Top of the World viewpoint, with views over the Pacific, downtown and the coves, and hawks and ospreys riding the thermals at eye level. Finish it off with a champaign toast. Easy pickup at the end makes it a favorite with hotel groups. Hike.
5. Surf heritage tour. Laguna helped shape California surf culture. This guided walk shares the stories behind it and pairs well with a lesson the same day. Ask us for the current format.
6. Taco tour. A walking crawl through Laguna's favorite taco spots, built for teams that want lunch to be the activity. Ask us about timing and group size.
7. Art Lovers Foodie Tour. Coffee and pastries in Heisler Park, grilled skewers in town, charcuterie and wine in the galleries, tacos, then gelato in a cobblestone alcove. The tour runs about three to four hours and covers about a mile. Laguna Beach Food Tour.
8. Art tour. A gallery-focused walk through Laguna's art colony history and today's studios, for client hosting or a calmer afternoon. It can also be folded into the Art Lovers Foodie Tour.
9. Team building beach olympics. Relays and team challenges on the sand, run as a friendly competition. We handle permits and logistics.
10. Competitive scavenger hunt. Teams race through the village's galleries, landmarks and viewpoints, scoring on an app with a live leaderboard. Duffy-style hunts also run next door in Newport.
Can't choose? A morning surf or paddle plus an afternoon taco or art walk is the classic Laguna combination.
Wellness & fitness add-ons
Laguna suits slower, restorative sessions. Add ocean-view yoga, a sound bath, guided breathwork or pilates to open a retreat day. For more energy, try a HIIT session on the sand or a cold plunge after surfing. We bring the instructors and equipment and handle setup, so ask us which sessions fit your schedule.
Group sizes and what's included
The hike takes 6–120 people, surf 1–24 and the foodie tour 6–30. We'll size paddling, beach olympics and the scavenger hunt to your headcount. Every program includes planning, a pre-event info sheet, certified guides, gear, water and snacks (by activity), and a 72-hour weather check. Pricing is quote-based.
Laguna Beach team building FAQ
Is Laguna good for total beginners on the water?
Yes. We choose the most sheltered cove for the conditions, start on the sand, and keep the guide ratio low.
What's the best Laguna activity for hosting clients?
The Art Lovers Foodie Tour or the art tour. Both are social and relaxed and show off the village.
How hard is the Top of the World hike?
It's rated intermediate: about 4.5 miles in 1.5–2 hours, at a pace that keeps the group together.
Can we combine surf heritage and an actual surf lesson?
Yes. A morning lesson followed by an afternoon heritage walk makes a full Laguna surf day.
